If you follow me on Twitter you’ll have seen frequent tweets moaning about the extent of work needed at our new house. We bought it last month and have yet to move in as it needs quite a bit more done than we initially thought. In amongst all the doom and gloom of rewiring, plastering, stripping and sanding there have been a couple of rays of light.
On Sunday we were stripping wallpaper (actually turned out to be a layer of painted textured wallpaper, a layer of polysterene then another layer of painted textured wallpaper) from the ceiling of what will be Iris’ room when I decided to have a closer look at the cupboard door. My dad had said he thought the panel at the front of the door was fake and that if we removed it there would be an original four panel door underneath. I had a wee tap and then cut a wee hole with a knife and decided there was indeed a door under it so I got the hammer out and look what was under the nasty fibreboard.
So my dad does actually know what he’s talking about it! I’m going to tackle the other doors in the house over the next week.
We were really pleased to discover three fruit trees in the garden – apple, pear and plum. The pear tree doesn’t seem to be producing much fruit but the apple and plum look like they will have a decent crop. Neither of us have the first clue about gardening but on Sunday quite a few of the plums looked ripe so we decided to pick a few.
They were yummy. I’m going to have look up some recipes for jam and chutney as there will be too many plums and apples to go in the fruit bowl. So it’s not all bad news.
